Debby-Lee Ellis was born Debby-Lee Jenkins in 1982 in Ipswich Queensland Australia. As a child she loved to draw, imagine, and generally make a mess. This creative streak continued throughout her primary and secondary school years. Excelling in art in high school eventually landed her a placement at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art at Morningside, Brisbane in the year 2000.
Debby-Lee graduated four years later with a Bachelor of Visual arts in Fine art, majoring in Printmaking and Digital imaging. She participated in several exhibitions throughout the length of the course. Debby-Lee claims her favorite exhibition to have been the Brisbane Artist Book and Multiples fair in Brisbane 2001 where she exhibited her series entitled ‘Dolly the Sheep’ which were digital images presented on a series of clinical stainless steel clipboards.
As well as including her body of work into the final year exhibition Debby-Lee is also proud to have had a key role in putting forward the suggestion of naming the Final year graduation exhibition “To what Degree”.
Debby-Lee had since married, had her first child and returned to her home town to raise her family and pursue her artistic career. She is currently focusing her skills in the area of painting, specifically working in the watercolour medium.
